Signs you need an emergency dentist today
If you're in pain or something doesn't look right, call us — we'll help you decide what to do next, even before you arrive.
Severe toothache
Persistent or throbbing pain, or pain when biting, can signal infection that needs prompt attention.
Broken or chipped tooth
We can relieve sharp edges and protect the tooth from further damage the same day.
Knocked-out tooth
Time matters. Keep the tooth moist and call us immediately for the best chance of saving it.
Lost filling or crown
An exposed tooth can be sensitive and vulnerable — we'll restore and protect it quickly.
Swelling or abscess
Facial swelling or a gum bump may mean infection. This needs urgent care — call right away.
Bleeding or injury
Trauma to the mouth or gums that won't settle should be evaluated as soon as possible.

What to do right now

A tooth has been knocked out
Pick it up by the crown, never the root. If it is dirty, rinse it briefly in milk or saline — do not scrub it. If you can, place it back in the socket and bite gently on a clean cloth. If you cannot, keep it in milk. Reaching a dentist within the hour gives the best chance of saving it.
A tooth is broken or chipped
Rinse with warm water and keep any pieces in milk. Use a cold compress on the outside of the cheek for swelling. Dental wax or sugar-free gum over a sharp edge protects your tongue and cheek until we see you.
You are in severe pain
Over-the-counter pain relief taken as directed on the label, plus a cold compress. Never hold aspirin against the gum — it burns the tissue. Pain that wakes you at night or throbs when you lie down usually means the nerve is involved, and it will not settle on its own.
A filling or crown came out
Keep the crown — it can often be re-cemented. Temporary dental cement from a pharmacy will protect the tooth for a day or two. Avoid chewing on that side and skip anything very hot, cold or sticky.
Your gum or face is swollen
Swelling usually means infection. Use a cold compress, keep your head elevated when lying down, and call us the same day. Do not try to drain it yourself. Some swelling needs an emergency room rather than a dental office — see the red flags below.
Bleeding that will not stop
Firm pressure with clean gauze for 10–15 minutes without lifting to check. If bleeding continues past 20 minutes, or follows an injury to the jaw or head, go to an emergency room.

If you are in pain outside those hours, call (972) 838-7009 and press 2. That rings our on-call phone, and a real person answers it any hour of the day or night — we will talk you through what to do and get you seen as soon as we open. You can also leave a voicemail; it is emailed straight to the office and checked.
Do not wait for a dental office if any of these apply. Go to a hospital emergency room now, or call 911:
- Swelling spreading toward your eye, or down into your neck or the floor of your mouth
- Any difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Fever alongside facial swelling
- Bleeding you cannot control with firm pressure

Emergency rooms and urgent care clinics can manage pain, infection and bleeding, but very few have a dentist on site, so they usually cannot treat the tooth itself. For anything short of the red flags above, a dental office will resolve it faster and cost you less.

If a 3D CBCT scan is clinically indicated during your visit, we will take it at no additional charge in September — we do not take one routinely. Children are welcome at the same prices; a child's visit includes an age-appropriate exam, X-rays, a child cleaning and fluoride.
Please read this before booking the cleaning option. A basic cleaning is appropriate only for patients with healthy gums. If your examination shows gum disease, the care you need is periodontal scaling and root planing, which is not part of this offer and costs $336 per quadrant. We will show you what we find and give you a written estimate before starting any additional treatment, and you are free to decline. This offer cannot be applied toward the cost of periodontal treatment or used as a credit against it. Fillings, crowns, extractions, sealants and all other treatment are not included.
These are self-pay prices for patients without dental insurance. If you have dental insurance we will file your benefits instead, and your cost will depend on your plan — call us and we will tell you what to expect before your visit.

We accept most PPO dental insurance and we verify your benefits before the visit. For an emergency exam most plans cover it in full, so there is often nothing for you to pay unless your annual benefit is already used up. If you’re paying out of pocket the emergency exam is $79.
